Fix It Friday Volunteer
Location: Acredale Workshop, Eyemouth
Hours: Fridays, 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM

Role Overview:
Join our Fix It Friday team and help maintain and repair bikes in a supportive and community-focused environment. This hands-on volunteer role involves cleaning, repairing, assembling bikes, and keeping the workshop organized. Whether you’re experienced or a beginner, this is a great opportunity to develop skills while making a positive impact.
Key Responsibilities:

Strip, clean, and prepare bikes for reassembly.

Repair and maintain bikes, replacing parts as needed.

Sort and organize bike parts for easy access.
-
Assemble bikes to ensure they are safe and functional.

Keep the workshop clean and follow safety procedures.

We welcome anyone with an interest in cycling and bike mechanics. No experience? No problem! We provide training and support. If you’re hands-on, detail-oriented, eager to learn, and enjoy meeting new people, this is the role for you.
Training & Support:
You’ll receive a full induction covering safety procedures, tool use, and workshop protocols. Ongoing support will be provided by workshop staff to help you build confidence and skills.

Ride Leaders / Assistant Ride Leaders
Location: Cycle Shack, Manse Road, Eyemouth
Hours: Flexible
Age: 16+ (16–18 years old can volunteer as Assistant Ride Leaders only)
Role Overview:
Lead or support group cycle rides through the stunning Berwickshire countryside, helping people of all abilities get back on their bikes. Ride Leaders guide groups along scenic routes, ensuring safety and enjoyment, while Assistant Ride Leaders provide valuable support. Rides are conducted at a steady pace, making them accessible to everyone.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead and Support Rides: Guide or assist a group of cyclists along pre-selected local routes, ensuring everyone stays together and enjoys the ride.

Encourage Riders: Motivate and support participants, especially those new to cycling or returning after a break.

Ensure Safety: Manage safety by maintaining a comfortable pace, checking for route hazards, and assisting with bike checks.

Communicate Clearly: Explain the route, engage with the group, and provide encouragement throughout the ride.

Collaborate as a Team: Work with the other Ride Leader or Assistant Ride Leader to support participants and ensure the ride runs smoothly.

Are 16+ years old (16–18-year-olds can assist but not lead).

Are willing to complete required training and work as part of a team.
Training and Support:
Volunteers will complete the Cycling Scotland Ride Leader Course, covering:

Ride Leadership: Techniques for leading safe, inclusive group rides.

Route Planning: How to plan scenic, safe routes and manage risks.
-
Group Management: Strategies for communication and support during rides.
Assistant Ride Leaders will gain hands-on experience alongside a Ride Leader before progressing to more independent roles.

Cycle Shack Volunteer
Location: Cycle Shack, Manse Road, Eyemouth
Hours: Daily, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Age: 16+
Role Overview:
Be the face of the Cycle Shack, helping with bike hires, sales of upcycled bikes, accepting donations, and providing excellent customer support. This role offers a mix of retail, customer service, and independent work, making it perfect for those who enjoy responsibility and engaging with the public.
Key Responsibilities:

Bike Hires: Manage bike rentals, ensure paperwork is completed, and provide customers with instructions.

Sales Assistance: Help customers find the perfect upcycled bike, offering information on features, sizes, and prices.

Donated Bikes: Accept and log bike donations for repair or resale.

Customer Support: Answer questions, offer advice, and create a welcoming experience.

Stock Management: Sell bike accessories, maintain organized stock, and keep the shop tidy.

Independent Work: Take charge of the shop during your shift, working independently to ensure smooth operations.

Trishaw Pilot Volunteer
Location: Cycle Shack, Manse Road, Eyemouth
Hours: Flexible
Age: 16+
Role Overview:
As a Trishaw Pilot, you’ll provide local residents, especially those with limited mobility, the chance to explore Eyemouth through safe and enjoyable rides on our electric-assisted Trishaw. This rewarding role combines cycling, community connection, and the joy of giving back. The Trishaw’s pedal assistance makes it accessible for all fitness levels.
Key Responsibilities:

Ride the Trishaw: Offer residents a scenic and enjoyable cycling experience around Eyemouth.

Assist Passengers: Help passengers safely on and off the Trishaw, ensuring their comfort throughout the ride.

Engage and Connect: Chat with passengers during the journey, creating a friendly, positive atmosphere.
-
Know the Routes: Familiarize yourself with local paths to provide an enjoyable and safe ride.

Ensure Safety: Follow safety guidelines for passengers and the Trishaw.
-
Perform Checks: Inspect the Trishaw before and after each ride, ensuring it’s in good working order.
